釵内 Sai Uchi (Strikes) Drill Practice Session Video

Spread the word

The above video shows a practice session of a kobudo drill using the Sai (metal truncheon). This is the second of three Sai drills that we practice in the kobudo program I run at The Academy of Traditional Karate. This drill is composed of four sets of strikes, reverse front strikes, reverse open down strikes, double strikes and double swinging strikes. The stances alternate between stepping left and right into Zenkutsu-dachi (front leaning stance). The Sai strikes are practiced on both the right and left sides with four repetitions of each strike.

Periodically video taping practice sessions like this is a great way to review and analyze your own performance. On video you can see what you are doing well and where you can continue to improve. Practicing Karate/Kobudo is always a constant process of learning, evaluating and improving.

I videoed this practice session in our basement dojo on 03/12/22. Stay tuned for my next post which will include a step-by-step breakdown and a PDF practice reference sheet for this drill. Subsequent posts will cover the Sai Combinations and two person Escrima drills which have also already been video taped.
