Sanchin means Three Battles, often interpreted as the battle to unify the mind, body and spirit. This is a core kata of various karate styles including Uechi Ryu and Goju Ryu. While it is not one of our 18 Matsubayashi Ryu kata we do practice it a little as an additional kata. It focuses on using the breath and internal dynamics to build the muscles and withstand an attack.
These videos are part of an advanced study project I took on as a Yondan and Renshi. The purpose was to video document the full set of 18 Matsubayashi Ryu kata as well as a few additional kata to use as a baseline for further refinement and study.
