FUKYUGATA ICHI (Fuji Kata dai Ichi) is the first basic form. This kata was created by Shoshin Nagamine, the founder of Matsubayashi Ryu along with Fukyugata Ni which was created by Chojun Miyagi the founder of Goju Ryu. They were created as basic kata that were easier to learn for beginners than the previously existing kata. In 1940 they were authorized to be the formal basic kata by the special committee of Okinawa karate-do.
These videos are part of an advanced study project I took on as a Yondan and Renshi. The purpose was to video document the full set of 18 Matsubayashi Ryu kata as well as a few additional kata to use as a baseline for further refinement and study.
