A bit of sad news today for Matsubayashi karateka around the world. This month they tore down Shoshin Nagamine’s Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu dojo. Shoshin Nagamine’s Dojo is Demolished. This was the birthplace of Matsubayashi Ryu where Matsubayashi practitioners around the world often traveled to experience the roots of Matsubayashi Ryu. While the old dojo is now gone, Matsubayashi Ryu lives on in us as Matsubayashi Ryu karateka.
Above is a A Tribute to the Matsubayashi-ryu Honbu video from Lara Chamberlain, a fellow Matsubayashi Ryu practicioner.

Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate – Midwest Honbu Dojo
Now that Shoshin Nagamine’s dojo is demolished, I’ll be doing an extra performance of Fukyugata Ichi (Fuji Kata dai Ichi) today in honor of Shoshin Nagamine and his old Matsubayashi Ryu dojo. All those who know the kata should do the same.
Passing on the Matsubayashi Ryu Tradition Now that Shoshin Nagamine’s Dojo is Demolished
It is now more important than ever that all the Matsubayashi Ryu karateka worldwide continue to pass on this valuable contribution that Shoshin Nagamine gave to the world. We’ll do our best here on our blog beginning with my little tribute to the 18 Kata of Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu.
